Marie Ann Shibley

Marie Ann Shibley (Micolucci), 81, of Cumru Township, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Reading Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Ivan A. Shibley. Together they shared almost 60 years of marriage. Their 60th anniversary would have been on July 25, 2024. 

Born on April 30, 1943, in Coaldale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Angeline (Piovane) Micolucci. Marie was the oldest of four daughters. She maintained a close relationship with all three of her sisters—Teresa Buchignani, Janet Filchner, and Linda Dydynsky—throughout her life. 

Marie received her bachelor’s degree in education from East Stroudsburg University where she met her future life partner. She was an educator for 35 years, last teaching as a Reading Specialist at Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School in Bloomsburg, PA where she was appreciated for her clarity of explanations, patient listening, and empathetic advice. 

Marie loved the outdoors, especially fishing. She was an avid reader and loved to talk about books and authors with others. She was a member of several book clubs during her life. She also collected cookbooks and recipes from magazines because she enjoyed finding new meals to keep her family well fed. She enjoyed playing a variety of cards with friends and family and teaching others how to play. She and Ivan travelled everywhere together in cars, planes, and boats. Together, she and Ivan spent at least one night in all fifty states plus Puerto Rico and Washington, DC.

Marie is survived by her husband Ivan A. Shibley, of Cumru Township; sons, Ivan A. Shibley Jr., husband of Maureen Dunbar, of Exeter Township; Anthony Shibley, husband of Zosima Shibley, of the Philippines; Matthew Shibley, of Natrona Heights, PA; step-daughter, Lisa Fisher, wife of Michael Pedro, of Susquehanna, PA; grandchildren, Elliot Shibley, Samantha Shibley, Tom Fisher, Kimberly Fisher, Patrick Fisher, Nathan Shibley, Megan Dunbar, Kyle Dunbar, Eric Dunbar and 8 great-grandchildren, Vivian Shibley, August Shibley, Eva Fisher, Cameron Fisher, McKeena Fisher, Ethan Fisher, and Becket Fisher. 

Services are at the convenience of the family. Marie requested in lieu of flowers or cards that a donation be made to The Heritage Resident Benefit Fund at 200 Tranquility Lane Reading PA 19607.
