Marian Snyder

Marian S. (Schaffer) Snyder, 89, died on January 30, 2018 at her residence in Spring Township.
She was the widow of Attorney Fredrick R. Snyder, who died on October 21, 2006, and the daughter of Frank C. Schaffer and Minnie E. (Knabb) Schaffer. She was also predeceased by her brother, Henry K. Schaeffer.
Marian was a graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University, and was certified to teach English, geography, history and social studies. After college, she completed a course of study at McCann School of Business.
She worked as a secretary for 15 years at American Casualty Company, later CNA, first for the company's personnel director and later for the president. After her marriage, she assisted her husband in his law practice part-time until his retirement soon before his death.
Marian was a member of several civic and social organizations and would have been honored on April 14 as a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Reading Chapter #251.
She and Fred traveled often and widely. She enjoyed plant culture and gardening, nature studies, cooking, word puzzles, visiting flea markets, and sharing stories of her travels with friends.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m., at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, with a visitation at the same location starting at 12:30 p.m. Burial in Laureldale Cemetery will follow the service.
Marian discouraged the purchase of flowers for her funeral. Contributions in her memory should be made to the Berks County Community Foundation, 237 Court Street, Reading, PA 19601.
