Maria Eduvigis Molina Torres

Maria Eduvigis Molina Torres, 86, of Sinking Spring, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Alejandrina Torres Ramos and Julio Molina Beronil. Maria was the loving and devoted wife of Rafael Torres, Sr., who passed away December 9, 2013, as well as a loving and devoted mother to her children. Maria worked as a Social Worker for the Reading School District for 25 years before retiring. In this work Maria assisted countless families with integrating successfully into the school district. Through this work Maria became known as an advocate for children and families. She spent countless hours ensuring that all who she came in contact with were provided with the opportunity to be educated in an environment that accommodated their needs as they matriculated through school. Maria often went beyond the call of duty to not only ensure that children were educated, but that families were connected to the resources needed to integrate into Reading, PA. 

 Maria was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 360 N 3^rd St., in Reading, Pennsylvania. She served faithfully, offering an open room and a warm meal, to followers and family. Maria was a phenomenal cook and put her heart into every meal and would gladly teach others to cook. Saturday evening dinners with her family were a long-standing tradition, as was traveling with the ones she loved. Maria’s love for her family was unconditional and unmatched. She cherished making memories with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family and friends. Maria kept busy with various hobbies including crocheting, sewing, and crafts. She was also well known for her talents and often received requests to create original dresses for celebrations and special occasions. Maria took pride in her appearance, always leaving her home dressed in her finest and with her hair and nails done. Maria was known as the “Mambo Queen”, and her face would light up when someone addressed her as such. Maria was a special gift to this world that anyone who knew her would attest to.

Maria is survived by her children, Lillian Rodriguez, wife of Luis of Wernersville, Rafael Torres, Jr., husband of Nilsa of Reading, and Michael Torres, Sr., husband of Marilyn of Shillington. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Michael Torres, Jr., Yvette Belfort, Louis Anthony Rodriguez, Jason Rodriguez, Desiree M. Rodriguez, and Michelle Torres, and her great grandchildren, Joshua, Janessa, Jazlynn, Jenalee, Alysa, Jeovani, Ariana, Camila, and Hector, Jr. In addition to her husband, Rafael, Maria is preceded in death by her son, Jason Torres, and her siblings, Milagros Mercado, Pedro Molina, Aida Molina, and Charlie Molina. 

Maria’s final arrangements are in the care of Bean Funeral Home of Sinking Spring, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, PA 19608. An evening viewing will be held at Bean Funeral Home on Friday, September 29, 2023. The family will receive visitors from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. The family will again receive friends and relatives on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 9:00am to 9:30am in the Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring for a prayer prior to proceeding to Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Road, Fleetwood, PA 19522 for Maria’s interment.  

Following the interment, the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 360 N. 3^rd Street, Reading, PA will hold a memorial service in honor of Maria at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
