Margaret Fisher

January 7, 1925 — March 10, 2016

Margaret "Peggy" Fisher, 91, of Phoebe Berks, passed away at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center on March 10, 2016. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Howard Voelkler Fisher and late Margaret McClure Fisher.

Peggy attended Wyomissing schools from grades 1 through 11 and did her senior year at the Knox School in Cooperstown, New York. She then went on to attend and graduate from Smith College with a major in Psychology. Later she earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Drexel University.

For years Peggy dedicated herself to her employment as a Civil Service Executive Secretary, as the Librarian for the American Casualty Company, and as a Reference Librarian for the Reading Public Library. Her professional skills also benefitted the First Presbyterian Church of Reading where she was the Librarian for twenty years. She set up library systems for the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts (where she served on the Board of Directors and was the Board's Secretary) and the Berks Art Alliance.

Her enthusiastic service and wide-ranging interests are reflected in her work as a caseworker for the American Red Cross, as a field director for the Campfire Girls Association, and in various volunteer jobs that she did for the Junior League of Reading while supporting the League's community efforts. Peggy was honored
for being a member of the League for 50 years. Peggy's numerous organizational
memberships included: Friends of the Reading Public Library, Friends of the Reading Museum, the Women's Committee of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, the DAR, and the Smith College Alumnae Association.

Peggy's interest in other countries and their cultures was related to the fact that she lived and worked in both Japan and Greece. Her additional travels to Mexico, Canada, Europe, Egypt, the Holy Lands, and China were sources of great pleasure for her. Peggy made several trips to Bermuda- it was her favorite.

Peggy is survived by her three loving siblings: Elizabeth Fisher of Springfield, VA, Howard M. Fisher of Sherborn, MA, and Victor B. Fisher of Chevy Chase, MD.
