Leonard Slemmer

Leonard J. Slemmer, 86, of Reading, passed away October 10, 2015.
He was the widower of Betty J. (Emore) Slemmer, who passed away February 12, 1993.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Clarence and L. Naomi (Spengler) Slemmer.
Leonard was a US Army veteran, serving as a forward observer in the 77th Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean War.
He was employed at Clark Equipment Company-Brown Trailer Division for 15 years and ADT Security Systems as an Inspector for 30 years, retiring in 1991
One of the proudest accomplishments in his lifetime was visiting all 50 states and he also loved dogs and caring for them.
Survivors include daughter Patricia A. Slemmer, Reading; son Leonard J. Slemmer, Jr, husband of Kathy, West Lawn. He was predeceased by five brothers Robert, Kenneth, Richard, Gerald and Leon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Slemmer's memory to American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605 and/or Humane Society of Berks County, 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, North 16th & Rockland Sts, Hampden Heights, Reading, Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00am, Rev. Kathy Bieber McNally officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Alsace Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00-11:00am.
