Leonard S. Coleman, 88, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away in his residence on April 9, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Born and raised in Reading, he was the son of the late Leonard S. and Mary (Vogel) Coleman, and husband of the late Betty R. (Reisinger) Coleman. Mr. Coleman is survived by his children Bonita L. Coleman Smith, wife of Stan P. Smith, M.D. of Mays Landing, New Jersey, Stephan A. Coleman, husband of Marguerite A. Coleman of Downingtown, PA, Pamela M. Coleman, wife of Alan Cooke of Ithaca, N.Y., and Christine A. Coleman NA�A�ez, wife of Eduardo NA�A�ez, M.D. with whom he resided. He is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Melissa Contorno, Stephanie Coleman and Rebecca Coleman and 2 great grandsons Andrew Contorno and Ryan Contorno. He was preceded in death by his grandson Christopher Shemanski. Mr. Coleman is also survived by his sister, Ann (Coleman) Boltz, wife of William Boltz of Wernersville, and his brother David Coleman, husband of Susan Coleman of Levittown, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Coleman.
Leonard graduated from Central Catholic High School and entered the Marine Corps in 1946. He later earned a B.S. in Accounting from Albright College and an M.B.A. from Temple University. He had a very fulfilling professional career at Carpenter Technology, retiring in 1986 as Executive Vice-President of Human Resources. After retiring, he became a certified Master Gardener through the Penn State Extension, and spent many years tending to his extensive vegetable garden.
Leonard married his loving wife, Betty, on November 25th, 1948, and shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with her. He cherished the time they spent with their children and grandchildren, much of which was spent at their vacation home in Long Beach Island, N.J., enjoying time on the boat and just relaxing with family and friends.
Memorial Service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 4:00 pm. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Saturday 3:30-4:00 pm.
