Lawrence N. Gasser, 76, of Fleetwood passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.
He was born December 18, 1939 in the City of Reading to the late Kathryn E. (Stuber) Gasser, wife of the late Wilber H. Gasser.
Larry graduated from Reading High School in 1957 and was an active baseball, basketball, and soccer player. He enlisted in the United States Airforce in January 1958 and proudly served his country for 4 years as an Airman First Class.
On October 26, 1963, Larry married the love of his life Mary Jane (Wentzel) Gasser. They made their home in Fleetwood, PA and were married 40 years. Mary Jane predeceased Larry in 2004.
Larry is survived by his only child, Kim Katherine (Gasser) Coombe, husband of Michael J. Coombe of Ephrata, PA. Larry is also survived by his brother, Brian L. Gasser married to Christine Gasser of Muhlenberg Township and their three children Olivia, Peter, and Brianne. He has 3 grand puppies Ellie, Gracie, and Kerbie.
Larry worked for Glidden paints in Reading, PA as a plant superintendent for 35 years. After retiring he worked part time at Cabela's in Hamburg, PA. Larry was a member of St. Paul's UCC Church in Fleetwood, PA.
Larry was an avid fly-fisherman and was an active member of Berks Fly Tyers Association and Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed many fishing expeditions, ranging from Bone fishing in the Bahamas to catching Cherry Char in the Article Circle. Locally, he frequented "the Tully."
A Celebration of Life is planned for Tuesday, January 5 at Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets in Reading, PA with the Reverend John Folk officiating. Visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by a memorial service. Burial of urn will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Larry's memory can be made to Fleetwood Ambulance Association EMS at 16N Chestnut St. PO Box 605, Fleetwood, PA 19522.
