Larry J. Pisano

Larry J. Pisano, 73, of Shillington, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 in the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Virginia (Bolig) and James R. Pisano.  Larry was the loving husband to Shirley A. (Dillman) Pisano and together they shared 37 years of marriage.  He graduated from Governor Mifflin High School and continued his education at Penn State Berks Campus where he received an Associate’s Degree in Drafting and Design.  Larry worked as a Project Engineer for General Battery/Exide for many years before starting his career at Singer Equipment in 2007.  He was an EMT and original running member of the former Governor Mifflin Ambulance Association.  He had over 50 years of service to the Cedar Top Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 and the Cumru Township Fire Department, serving as both a firefighter and Secretary during his time there. Larry was also a Gold Lodge member of the Victor Emmanuel II Beneficial Society.

 One of Larry’s greatest passions was theater. He was a life member of Reading Civic Theater (formerly Reading Civic Opera Society) for 55 years. During those years he filled a number of roles from performer to set designer, board member, former President, Production Director, and Technical Director. He was a founding partner of the Greater Reading Alliance of Community Theatres and provided designs for a future performance space. Larry was also a former President and member of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) Local 97 Stagehands Union.  He loved being involved in his community, was a mentor to many people, and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, Larry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Pisano, of New Jersey, his siblings, Kerry Pisano, husband of Lynn Perton of New York, and Jamie “Catt” Pisano, of Florida.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 5:00pm in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.  Reverend Mandy Miller to celebrate.  The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, June 3^rd from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Larry J.
