Lance Stauffer

Lance Brian Stauffer, 78, of Shillington, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at 9:50 pm in Lebanon VA Medical Center following an eight month battle with leukemia. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Phyllis I. (Doskus) Stauffer. Born in Lancaster, Lance was the son of the late Harold and Thelma (Hunchberger) Stauffer. He was a 1956 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School where he was the 1956 Athlete of the Year. Following graduation, Lance enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Strategic Air Command. After his commitment to his country, he graduated in 1964 from West Chester University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and was a four year letterman and later received his Master's degree from West Chester University in Education. Lance was the aquatics director in the Governor Mifflin School District for 30 years. He taught many community members how to swim and the value of water safety. He was also co-organizer of the age group swimming program in Berks County where he served as president for many years. Lance had a positive impact on the lives of many age group and high school swimmers at Governor Mifflin. He was inducted into the Governor Mifflin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Berks County Aquatic Hall of Fame in 2000. In addition to his wife Phyllis, Lance is survived by his children Brett B. Stauffer, husband of Jill Stauffer of Hamburg, New Jersey; Brady A. Stauffer, husband of Amy Stauffer of Shillington and Jodi L. Stech, wife of Scott Stech of Exeter Township along with his grandchildren Shane, Lily, Taylor, Kyle and Jake. He is also survived by his brother Bruce Stauffer, husband of Georgia Stauffer of Colchester, Connecticut. Lance will be greatly missed by many.
A Celebration of Lance's Life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in memory of Mr. Lance Brian Stauffer.
