Kenneth Charles Williams, age 98, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was born January 21, 1920, in Reading, to the late Robert Nicholas and Laura (Hill) Williams. Ken was a 1938 graduate of Shillington High School and went on to graduate from Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute in 1941. He married Ruth Lida Meyers in 1941 and they were married for 72 years until her death on January 21, 2014.
A veteran of World War Two, Ken was assigned to the Army's 28th Infantry Division, 109th Infantry Regiment, and was deployed to the German front. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle and was decorated with the Combat Infantryman Badge, the European Service Medal with three battle stars, and the Croix de Guerre. Sergeant Williams was a brave and loyal solider, as well as a loving and devoted husband.
After the war, Ken resumed his employment with Textile Machineworks, which became Rockwell International, where he worked in the research and development laboratory. Over the course of his career, Ken developed numerous U.S. patents and made dozens of lifelong friends.
Ken is survived by his son, Thomas Charles Williams, husband of Lily M. Williams, of Millersville; his daughter and devoted caregiver, Betsy B. Williams, of Shillington; and his grandson, Marc Andrew Williams, Esq., of Millersville. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
