Kenneth Gertney

Kenneth C. Gertney, 67, of Spring Twp., passed away October 24, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous fight throughout a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of Phyllis D. (Orth) Gertney; together they celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Kenneth P. and Catharine (Lykens) Gertney.
A 1966 graduate of Reading High School, he earned a BA in History from Albright College in 1970 and a master's degree from Lehigh University. He was a US Army National Guard veteran.
Kenneth was a member of Reading Masonic Lodge #549 and an honorary member of Palatine, IL Masonic Lodge #314. He also volunteered at the Palatine Senior Center where he taught and wrote a computer class curriculum. Kenneth was a talented natural beauty photographer making beautiful keepsakes, enjoyed working on home projects and was a generous, and caring man always willing to help others.
Mr. Gertney was first employed at Gilbert Associates, Inc., Reading, retiring in 2004 as an executive with Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc., Chicago, having worked in various locations throughout the country via company transfers.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Phyllis, are sister Sharon L. Ulrich, Cumru Twp.; sister-in-law Elizabeth A. Meleon, wife of Martin L. Meleon, Spring Twp.; nieces Amanda L. Brensinger and Lisa A. Meleon; great-nephew and nieces Carter, Lexi and Sydney Brensinger; aunt Hazel Fox and cousin Linda Fox both of Flying Hills; and Goddaughter Meredith Dessoye of N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Mr. Gertney's memory.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 12 noon, Rev. Dr. Kris A. Hayden and Rev. Judith Urso Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends 11:00-12:00 noon.
