Karl Pfeiffenberger, Sr

Karl F. Pfeiffenberger Sr., 92, of Cumru Township, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019, at 12:50 p.m. in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Lorna M. (Buber) Pfeiffenberger. Born in Pottsville, Mr. Pfeiffenberger was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (Schueler) Pfeiffenberger. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Pottsville and a 1950 graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree in business. Mr. Pfeiffenberger was a master sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Saint John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church. He was executive director of the South Eastern Region Pennsylvania Department of Health for thirty years, retiring in 1985. He was also one of the founding members of the Catholic War Veterans of Pottsville, and one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus Council 7179. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Matt K. Pfeiffenberger, husband of Maureen, of Downingtown; Karl F. Pfeiffenberger, fiance of Lynn A. Haas, of Scranton; Mark E. Pfeiffenberger, husband of Valerie, of Mount Penn; Lynne A. Johnston, fiancee of the late Chief Lee K. Schweyer, of Wyomissing; Gail Pfeiffenberger, of Pittsburgh; Beth A. Pfeiffenberger, of West Lawn; Patrice Pfeiffenberger, of Chicago; and 15 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers.
Funeral procession will depart Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave., Shillington, on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at 9:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, Kerrick & Mitti Roads, Shillington, at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Richard H. Clement, Celebrant. Interment with military honors rendered by the United States Army will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 8:00-9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 420 Holland Street, Shillington, PA 19607 in memory of Mr. Karl F.
