Kalliope "Kally" English

To know Kally (Kalliope) English was to love her. She always thought of others before herself. Kally was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. Throughout her life, Kally taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and volunteered in the church office. She was an active member in St. Xenia Philoptohos (charitable society). Kally regularly organized volunteers for Opportunity House Homeless Shelter and also delivered meals with volunteers to the shelter.

Kally was a sweet, fearless lady. She would go anywhere there was a need. Together with her sister Eugenia, (pre-deceased) she tutored teenagers and taught adults to read at the library. Their home was always open to visitors, especially during the holidays. They would cook together, and Kally would pick up anyone who didn’t drive. They started “The Breakfast Club” many years ago, and they still meet once a week. She often visited the sick and delivered meals to shut-ins. Kally never spoke of her good deeds and dedicated her life to the Lord.  Kally worked as a data entry employee for CNA Insurance for many years.

Kally’s parents, John and Rose Englezopoulos immigrated from Asia Minor in 1913 and 1916. Her sisters were Marie Havas, Eugenia English, Penelope Theofiles, and Irene Marmarou. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Kally lived the majority of her life in Reading, Pennsylvania. Her last years were spent in New Jersey. Kally's family is thankful she received excellent care at Cardinal Village Assisted Living in Sewell NJ. When the need arose, Enoble Hospice Care (working in Cardinal Village) allowed sweet Kally to remain in a loving environment where she passed in peace and comfort.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20th at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church: 1001 E Wyomissing Blvd,  Reading, Pa 19611. Viewing 9:00 am with funeral service to follow at 10:00 am.

It was Kally’s wishes for donations to be made to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers.
