Joyce Eileen John

Joyce Eileen John (Pavel) of Sunbury, PA, 71, passed on Monday, March 3, 2025, in the company of family at Reading Hospital, due to succumbing to Stage 4 lung cancer.

She is survived by her daughter Dawn Wrobel, and son-in-law Kevin Wrobel, of Reading and her grandson, Jameson.

She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Melissa Pavel, of Colts Neck, NJ, Caitlin Dempsey, of Sunbury, PA, Edward Dempsey of Carlisle, PA, Brendan Dempsey, of Carlisle, PA, grandniece Winona Dempsey and grandnephew Dawson Reigle. She is also survived by her younger brother, Kenneth Pavel, of Sunbury, PA.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents, Katherine Pavel, and Edward J. Pavel Sr. as well as her siblings, Gail Hankinson, Karen Dempsey, and Edward J. Pavel Jr. and ex-husband, Stephen F. John.

She spent her childhood in Roselle Park, NJ and Freehold, NJ. Joyce was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and went on to work in the manufacturing field until her retirement.

She had a big heart, always there to help family and make sure they were loved and cared for. She doted on the children of the family whenever she could, leaving lots of fond childhood memories behind.

She was a lover of animals, especially dogs. An avid movie buff, she enjoyed spending time at home wither family for “movie nights” complete with a vast array of snacks. Her potato salad and pistachio cake were family favorites and surely these will try to be replicated by those left behind.

She was strong, brave, and kind. There are no words to express the extent of how much she is loved and how dearly she will be missed.
