Joseph Harter

Joseph P. Harter, 91, of Wyomissing, was reunited with his wife Rose on Thursday, February 16, 2017 after passing peacefully in his residence surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born in Reading and was the proud son of Leo and Mary (Schneider) Harter. He was married to Rose for 69 loving years. The two together showed our family what true love is. Joe enjoyed bowling and watching baseball. He also enjoyed family picnics, playing cards and spending time with his family, and of course a cigar here and there. He always put family first and with Rose they were the rock that served as the foundation for the family. He will remain forever in our hearts. He is survived by his three children, Paul J. Harter, husband of Denise Harter; Joanne L. Creel, wife of Kevin C. Creel and Jeffrey J. Harter, husband of Faith A. Harter along with his grandchildren Jason P. Harter; Jeremy M. Coleman; Jason R. Coleman; Candice M. McNish; Joshua J. Harter; Ashley N. Harter and Jessica L. Harter and his great grandchildren Michayla; Camden; Ewan; Isaac; Marin; Caleb and Serena. Also surviving are his brothers Leo Harter, husband of Irene Harter of Bern Township; Walter Harter, husband of Mary Harter of Ohio and William Harter of Cumru Township and his sister Betty Lou Rittenhouse of Earlville Township.
Family and Friends will be gathering on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 12-5:00 pm at Joanne's home to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Berks County 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in memory of Mr. Joseph P. Harter.
