Joseph E. Ferri, 89, of Shillington, passed away on January 14, 2017, at Penn State Health-St. Joseph.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Albert Ferri and Annuziata (Bernachhi) Ferri Spadafora.
He was the widower of Rose M. Ferri, to whom he was married from October 18, 1947, until her passing on April 22, 2016.
Joe was a lifelong member of St. John Baptist de LaSalle RCC in Shillington, where he served on the Financial Committee.
Family and work were his passions, and he built his life around them.
Joe, a Navy Veteran and self-educated man, involved himself in many business ventures. In 1968, Joe founded General Polymeric Corp. in West Reading. The company later moved to Cumru Township and rebranded as GenPore. He remained active in GenPore's daily operations and served as the president until his passing. He was a teacher to all those around him and constantly sought innovation to remain at the forefront of industry.
He is survived by his children: Shelly Kreska, wife of Ken of Shillington, and Denice Cannon, widow of Joe of Spring Twp.; grandchildren: Matthew Kreska, husband of Colleen, SSgt Stephen Kreska, USAF, husband of Debra, Kristen Cartin, wife of Daniel, Ryan Cannon, husband of Sophie, and Evan Cannon; great-grandchildren: Kathryn and Rebecca Kreska, Jovyn and Coryn Kreska, and Penelope, Cecilia and Desmond Cartin; and sister: Freda Genova, widow of Frank.
He was also predeceased by his siblings: Thomas and Mary Ferri and Josephine Rinker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. John Baptist de La Salle RCC, 42 Kerrick Rd., Shillington, on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive friends and relatives at Bean Funeral Home, 129 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington, on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5-8:00 PM. The entombment will follow the Mass at Gethsemane Cemetery and Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to John Paul II Center for Special Learning, 1092 Welsh Rd., Shillington, PA 19607 and LaSalle Academy, 440 Holland St., Shillington, PA 19607.
