John Westcott

January 30, 1962 — January 1, 2021

Lower Alsace Township, PA

John R. “Wess” Westcott, 58, of Lower Alsace Township, passed away peacefully Friday January 1, 2021 at 5:45 am in his residence.  He was the husband of Janis L. (Haynes) Westcott of Exeter Township.  Born in West Reading, Wess was the son of the late Raymond and Barbara (Zellers) Westcott.  He was a 1980 graduate of Mount Penn High School and graduated in 1984 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.  Wess worked at Bollman Hat Factory in Adamstown since the age of 17 where he began in the hat store and worked his way up to distribution manager.  He enjoyed doing yardwork and edging the grass the “correct way.”  He enjoyed talking about useless trivia, watching the news, and cooking his own unique dishes.  He had a never-ending love for the Minnesota Vikings and could always be seen wearing purple.  In addition to his wife, Wess is survived by his children Alex T. Westcott, husband of Laura Westcott of Exeter Township; Jamie N. Westcott of Lower Alsace Township; Michelle N. Burd of Exeter Township; Steven W. Burd of Winchester, Kentucky and his two grandchildren Eric and Mila Westcott.  He is also survived by his brother Michael Westcott of Palm Beach, Florida.  Wess was preceded in death by his brothers William and David.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the United Way of Berks County 501 Washington Street #601, Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Mr. John R. Westcott.  Bean Funeral Homes & Crematory, 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
