John F. "Jack" Turner, 80, of Spring Twp., passed away Monday, February 9th at home.
Born in Oldhan, England, he was the son of the late Frank and Elsie (Hayes) Turner, and husband of Anne (Robinson) Turner, who passed away on February 20, 2002. Mr. Turner lovingly cared for Mrs. Turner throughout her long illness.
He was a graduate from and charter member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering in England.
He worked for Birdsboro Steel for more than forty years, first as a Mechanical Design Engineer, then later as the Director of the Design Engineering Group, before becoming the Vice President of Engineering. He was published in the Iron and Steel Yearbook on several occasions for his design innovations.
He traveled the world in a professional capacity, and was instrumental in helping to industrialize China with vast improvements in their steel industry. He later worked as the President of Four D Engineering for six years, and for the last two years before retiring worked as a self employed consultant.
He was also a professional member of the Mechanical Engineering Society, and the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Jazz Society, attending dancing and concerts through the mid state area. He also enjoyed being the skipper of his sailboat, "The Wind Dreamer" on the Chesapeake.
He was a member of the former St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Birdsboro.
Survivors include two sons: Michael J. Turner, husband of Kathleen Turner of Bernville; David C. Turner, husband of Rosemary Turner of Mohnton.
There are also four grandchildren: Melody, Tara, Katie, and John.
