John Nowotarski, Sr

March 30, 1922 — January 22, 2011

John V. Nowotarski, Sr., 88, of Cumru Twp., passed away January 22, 2011 in Mifflin Center where he resided since June 2009. He was the husband of Helen (Michalowski) Nowotarski, who he married September 14, 1946 in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Born in Reading on March 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Wisniewski) Nowotarski.

He was a Master Sergeant in the US Army during World War 2, serving in Europe, the Pacific & Africa. He retired in 1987 from Carpenter Technology Corp. after 31 years of service having worked as a swing grinder and later a midwest grinder.

Mr. Nowotarski served as a Director for 6 years of the Polish Falcons Alliance of Berks County, Nest 964, Reading, PA and served as a National Director for 8 years of the Polish Falcons of America out of their headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a life member of Oakbrook Fire Company, Volunteer Fireman's Relief Assn., Kenhorst Fire Company, East End AA Beneficial Assn., 18th Ward Democratic Club, and Hunter Liggett Post # 38 VFW. He was a social member of Lower Alsace Beneficial Assn. and the Berks County Clubmens Assn. He also served as a Past President of the Kenhorst Boosters Club. He was awarded the Polish American Citizen Award in 1993 and the Outstanding Berks County Clubman in 2005. He also was an advisor of the Polka Squires Dance Group.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Marian C. (Nowotarski) wife of Carl H. Klopp of Geigertown, a son John V. Nowotarski, Jr. husband of Diana of Hamburg, 4 grandsons Professor Raymond C. Trievel, Jr of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Philip J. Trievel of Reading; Jeremy R. Trievel of Reading; and Airman First Class John V. Nowotarski III , USAF of Las Vegas, NV; 1 great granddaughter Caitlyn M. Trievel of Ypsilanti, Michigan, 3 sisters Celia Mullen of Birdsboro, Dolores Labate and Lorraine Overly both of Reading and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Mildred Gagliano and brothers Edmund, Stanley, Eugene, Bernard and Clarence.
