John Newpher

July 28, 1930 — January 8, 2018

John Buchanan Newpher, 87, formerly of Reading, Pennsylvania, born on July 28, 1930, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018 with his family by his side at Lancaster County Hospice Center Mount Joy. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Melten and Geraldine Newpher and brother to his late twin sister Joan Reisch.
John was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School Class 0f 1948, attended Albright College and Penn State. John served in the US Navy from July 1949 to April 1953 where he served as an Air Controlman 3rd Class for the 212th Air Service Group continuing on to be employed with Carpenter Technology for 46 years. John was an avid sportsman loving football, baseball and golf. He spent many of his years making sure he attended as many Reading High School football and basketball games along with attending as many Reading Phillies games as he possibly could. As an avid Eagles Fan and season ticket holder for most of his life, he brought up all his children to be die hard Eagle Fans as well. He had a special heart and love for his family and their happiness. John and his wife Betty had attended St. Mathews United Methodist Church in Reading for most of his life and most recently had attended Spring Valley Church of God, Reading.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Newpher and their five children, John Harvy Buchanan Newpher of Apache Junction, AZ; Todd Alan Newpher, of York, PA; Rhonda Karen Queen, of Las Vegas, NV.; Geralyn Cnythia Louise Matyasich, of Sinking Spring, PA.; and Cydney Cerise Stepanoff, of Keenesburg, CO. John was also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
