John R. Helwig, 74, of Exeter Twp., passed away on February 10, 2017 at The Reading Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late John E. and Hazel M. (Hurley) Helwig.
John was employed by Ludens, a division of Hershey Foods, working in shipping and receiving. He retired after working 37 years. He was a member of the Lower Alsace Beneficial Association and a lifetime member of the East Ends Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Judith A. (Weidman) Helwig; children: Jeffrey J. Helwig, husband of Karen D. of Lower Alsace Twp. and John H. Helwig, husband of Deanna L. of Exeter Twp. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Petty Officer John A. Helwig, husband of Alexa of Washington State and Amber D. "His Amber Girl" Helwig; Brother: Donald I. Helwig, husband of Beryl.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
