John Body, Jr

John M. Body, Jr., 77, of Shillington, passed away April 17, 2011 at 4:25 PM in Reading Hospital & Medical Center shortly after arrival. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Faust) Body. Born in Reading on February 25, 1934, he was the son of the late John M. Body, Sr. and the late Mary (Ebbert) Body.

John was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School and attended the Wyomissing Polytech Institute. John served in the US Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1994, he was employed for a total of 37 years by AT&T as a supervisor and last worked as the administrator of the AT&T Pioneers. He worked after his retirement as the Green Grocer at Giant Food Store on Van Reed Road.

He was a member of Chandler Lodge # 227 F&AM, Past President and current Board Member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Past President of Berks County Swimming Assn., Past President of PIAA Swimming Officials, Past President of Shillington Park and Pool and a member of Berks County Swimming Hall of Fame.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Julie A. (Body) wife of Rory S. Straub of Sinking Spring; two sons John M. Body, III partner of David E. Lazaro of Northampton, MA and Christopher A. Body husband of Lisa (Fletcher) Body of Annapolis, MD; four grandchildren Derek Straub, Taylor Straub, Reagan Body and Maerin Body; four sisters Miriam (Body) Kline of Sinking Spring, Anna Mae (Body) Mann of Reading, Mary Jane (Body) Parsons of Spring Twp. and Joan (Body) Calvaresi of Shillington; and one brother Solon Body of Shillington. He was predeceased by a sister Lucille Landis.
