Joan C. "Jo Ann" (Schultz) Schuhwerk
Joan, of The Heritage at Green Hills, Reading, PA, passed away on February 27, 2018, after a brief illness. Born on July 26, 1931, in Erie, PA, Joan was the daughter of the late Cyril D. Schultz, Sr. and Alma B. (May) Schultz. Joan was the beloved wife of Norman J. Schuhwerk for 59 years.
Joan was a graduate of the former Mercyhurst Seminary and attended the former Edinboro State Teachers College. She was employed in the payroll departments of General Electric (Erie) and Boscov's Department Stores for several years.
Joan was a member of St. Catharine of Siena Parish and active in the 50+ Club. She enjoyed cross stitching, cruises, card playing, Bingo, ice skating and home decorating. Joan was also a Brownie Girl Scout leader. But mostly she enjoyed hearing of the exploits of her five daughters and eight grandchildren!
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Rebecca, wife of Gregory Shemanski, Birdsboro, PA; Caroline, wife of Timothy Ingles, Owings Mills, MD; Mary Jo, wife of Ronald Alexander, Apex, NC; Kathryn, Blue Bell, PA; and Melody, wife of Louis Kelley, Fredericksburg, VA; and grandchildren Stephanie and Michael Shemanski; Amanda and James Alexander; Hallie Ingles; and Patrick, Elizabeth, and David Kelley. Joan was also blessed with five nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, brothers Donald F. Schultz and Cyril D. "Bud" Schultz, Jr., and her sister-in-law Sarah Schultz.
Additionally, the family of Joan Schuhwerk would like to express our deepest appreciation for the kindness and caring shown by the staffs of Green Hills Manor and Compassus during her illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter Township, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:30 am. Reverend Monsignor Edward R. Domin, Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Friday, March 2, 2018 from 7:30-9:00 pm and in Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Saturday 9:30-10:15 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Mount Penn, PA 19606 or the charity of ones choice in memory of Mrs. Joan C.
