Joan Ellis

Joan D. Ellis, 83, of Spring Township, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:38 am in ManorCare Health Services, Spring Township. She was the wife of Richard H. Ellis. Born in Reading, Mrs. Ellis was the daughter of the late John W. and Mae S. (Musket) Adams. She was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School and a 1954 graduate of the former Allentown General Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of Saint Luke's Lutheran Church, Reading. Mrs. Ellis was a registered nurse at Community General Hospital for 26 years retiring in December 1980. She previously worked as a charge nurse at the former Reading Nursing Center from 1981-1982 and as a Medicine Nurse at the former Leader Nursing Home, now ManorCare Health Services, Spring Township from 1982-1984. Mrs. Ellis served on the Board of Directors of the Reading High School Alumni Association from 1986-1996 and was a volunteer receptionist for Easter Seals Society of Berks County from 1989-1993 and was a life member of Reading High School Alumni Association and life member of Allentown Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. In addition to her husband Mrs. Ellis is survived by her sister Doreen K. Stalnecker, wife of Andrew H. Stalnecker of Sinking Spring along with 3 nephews, 1 niece and several cousins.
Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend William B. Fryer, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 10-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Luke's Lutheran Church 449 North 9th Street, Reading, PA 19601 in memory of Mrs. Joan D. Ellis.
