Janet Sassaman

Janet L. Sassaman, 83, of Shillington, passed away on December 8, 2016 in the comfort of her home with her husband at her side. She fought her heart failure disease for 8 years after open heart surgery, but is now at peace with the lord.
She was the wife of David C. Sassaman for 64 wonderful years, married by Reverend George Cressman at Hope Lutheran Church of Reading. She was a graduate of Reading High School and was employed at McCrory's Store.
Janet served as Chair of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Reading Elks Lodge 115 from 1977-79 as well as the First Lady of the PA Elks State Association in 1986-87. She very much enjoyed her time with the other past First Ladies of the PA Elks State Association, as well as attending the Elks Conventions and affairs.
The family extends a personal thank you to all the Visiting Nurses and aides of the Berks Co. VNA for all of your caring, personal attention and help during her hospice care at home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter: Deborah A. Landis, wife of Scot Landis of Shillington and Son: David W. Sassaman, husband of Janet A. (Calhoun) Sassaman of Hershey, PA. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Michael Sassaman of Boston, MA, Nicole Sassaman of Hershey, PA, and Karen Sassaman of Pittsburg; Sister: Susan Knarr, wife of Michael and two nephews: Barry and Lee Knarr, a cousin: Judith Smith, wife of Robert Smith and their daughter: Shelley Smith Chelius; Surviving siblings-in-laws: William Sassaman, Kenneth (Buzz) Sassaman, Ruth Ann (Sassaman) Eyrich, wife of M.T. (Butch) Eyrich, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:30AM. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10-11:30AM. The interment will follow the service at Pleasant View Cemetery.
