James D. "Uncle Jimmy" Reed, 75, of Bern Twp., passed away November 11, 2010 at 6:30 AM in his residence. Born in Fredericksburg, Lebanon County on August 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Arlene M. (Kline) Reed.
Mr. Reed was employed at United Parcel Service for 35 years as a truck driver, retiring in 1995. He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School and was a US Air Force veteran.
He was a proud member of the NRA, and Ducks Unlimited. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved nothing more than hunting with his family at their camp in Clearfield County. He also had a love for horses and was an avid penner. Jimmy was also known for his love of baseball and softball. He was the coach of several ball teams, including the Muhlenberg A's. Jimmy was also the proud sponsor of 2 softball teams, one in the Muhlenberg Recreation League and one in the City League, both named Reed's.
Surviving are his son Patrick A. Reed, husband of Leah, his granddaughter Alli Nicole Reed and his life partner of 36 years, Lila M. "Lu" (Dugan) Allison with whom he resided. He is also survived by 3 sisters Charlotte M. Thomas, Geraldine M. Weyandt and Marge Movita Blum, and countless nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by nine brothers: Earl I., Benjamin F., Jr., David A., Harry M., Odie T., Paul V., Everette W. "Bingie", John C. and Carson "Chickiy" Reed; and two sisters: Evelyn Schwartz and Phyllis Kehres.
