James Howard Kantner, 93, of Shillington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of 66 years, of Pauline L. Kantner, who passed away on March 14, 2015. Born in Shillington, he was the son of the late James Lewis and Bessie Mae (Krick) Kantner.
James served proudly in the United States Army, including during the Korean War, where he received three purple hearts. He served 20 years in the military until he retired in 1968. After retiring from the military, he worked as a Mail Carrier for the Post Office in Mohnton, until retiring in 1999. James was a Phillies fan, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, and above all loved being with his family.
James was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Lynn Kantner Hill-Bishop; and siblings, Doris, Ruth, Jane, Pat and Homer.
He is survived by his children, Steven J. Kantner, husband of Antonia, of Woodbridge, VA; Paula J. Holzman, wife of Kim, of Wernersville; James L. Kantner, husband of Esther, of Currituck, NC; Kimberly Harriss, of Norfolk, VA; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Norma Wilson, wife of Donald Wilson.
A service will be held at Bean Funeral Homes 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, PA 19608 on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 6:00pm. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The interment will follow on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
