James J. Pfleger III, 71, of Alsace Township, passed away February 27, 2009 at 9:55 pm in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Emma L. (Kupp) Pfleger and the late Carolyn(Sweitzer) Pfleger who passed away March 29, 1993. Born in Reading he was the son of the late James J. Pfleger Sr. and Louise P. (Pierce) Pfleger. Mr. Pfleger was a truck driver for Yellow Freight in Douglassvile for 8 years retiring July 29, 1994. Formerly, he was a truck driver for Branch Motor Freight for 27 years and was owner/operator of C&J Greenery for 17 years. He was a member of the former 10th street Church of God, served as Civil Defense Coordinator for Alsace Township for 10 years and was Past Fire Chief of Alsace Manor Fire Department for 25 years and was also a life member. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, James J. Pfleger IV of Oley; Jon M. Pfleger of Temple; Joel D. Pfleger of Reading; Jeffrey S. Pfleger of South Carolina and daughters Deborah S. wife of Raymond Brumbach of South CArolina; Cynthia L. wife of Donald Levan of Fleetwood; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Paul Pfleger of Reading; Step Son Jeffrey L. Kupp of Birdsboro and an aunt, Miriam Hainley of Reading.
