James F. Gaffney, 88, of Exeter Township, PA passed away peacefully at the Berkshire Center on Saturday, November 3.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Eileen (Long) Gaffney. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late Albert and Agnes (Dunn) Gaffney.
A 1948 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Elizabeth, NJ, he enlisted in the Army and served his country in Korea. Following his return, he worked for Prudential Insurance Company of Newark, NJ. After moving to Berks County in 1963, he worked as a Data Processing Manager for Birdsboro Steel Corporation until his retirement.
He was an active member of St. Catharine of Siena Church, Mt. Penn, for 55 years. In his retirement, he volunteered at the church rectory and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events, concerts and dance recitals. He was also a member of the Serra Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Known affectionately as Pop, he was a kind, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than the company of his family. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, Mary Eileen, he is survived by 5 children: James, Reading; Joseph, husband of Jacqueline, Exeter Township; John, husband of Jennifer, Temple; Maureen, wife of Barry Vagnoni, Exeter Township; Matthew, husband of Marcella, Muhlenberg Township; and grandchildren Erin, Colleen, Molly, Abigail, and Aidan Gaffney; Olivia, Madeline, and Katherine Vagnoni. In addition, he is survived by a brother-in-law, Reverend Joseph Long, CSC of Florida.
He was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Gaffney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter Township, Friday, November 9, 2018 at 10:30 am. Reverend Monsignor Edward R. Domin, Celebrant. Interment will be held privately by the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home 6 Fairlane Road, Exeter Township, Thursday, November 8, 2018 6:00-8:00 pm and in Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Friday 9:00-10:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Mount Penn, PA 19606 in memory of Mr. James F. Gaffney.
