Jacob “Jack” H. Fordyce, 98, of Reading, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, after a brief stay at Berks Heim Nursing Home. Born in Reading, Jack was the son of the late Minnie (Becker) and John Fordyce. Jack was the loving husband of Dolores C. (Urban) Fordyce and together they shared 67 years of marriage. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. He proudly served his country in World War II as a part of the United States Army/Air Force and again in the Korean War in the United States Air Force, holding the rank of Technical Sergeant. Jack graduated from Reading High School after returning from World War II, it was very important to him that he completed his education. He worked as a Customer Service Agent for US Airways for 25+ years. After retirement, he enjoyed building and flying remote-controlled airplanes. Most of all, Jack loved spending time with his family especially, at Stone Harber, New Jersey every year. He took great care of “his girls” with love, unending patience, and a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Dolores, Jack is survived by his daughter, Leslie F. Phillips, wife of Nicholas of Sinking Spring, his granddaughter, Chelsea J. Phillips, fiancée of Christopher Badinger and his great granddaughter, Riley. Jack is predeceased by his siblings, Raymond Fordyce, John Fordyce, Joseph Fordyce, Bernie Fordyce, Elizabeth Miller, Dorothy Raab, Hazel Gudikunst, and Jane Bright.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1018 N. 8th Street, Reading. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 9:00am to 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow mass at Gethsemane Cemetery with Military Honors to be rendered by the United States Air Force. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jacob “Jack” H. Fordyce to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1018 N. 8th Street, Reading, PA 19604 for the Roof Repairs.
