J. Sauppee, Jr

J. Robert Sauppee, Jr., 90, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away on May 2, 2017 at The Reading Hospital.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late J. Robert Sauppee, Sr. and Magdaline C. (Cady) Sauppee.
Mr. Sauppee was a 1945 graduate of Reading Catholic High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Missouri, witnessing the Japanese surrender at Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945; he also served during the Korean War, aboard the USS New Jersey. Robert was a member of the USS Missouri Association. He was employed as a Sales Manager for Walker Manufacturing for 28 years, retiring in 1989. Robert was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, where he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and past president of Holy Name Society.
He was predeceased by his wife: Madeline V. (Nangle) Sauppee, daughter-in-law: Cheryl A. (Tomaszewski) Sauppee, granddaughter: Danielle D. Baumer, and brother: James G. Sauppee.
He is survived by his children: J. Robert Sauppee, III., husband of Diane L. of Blandon, Donna L. Speece, wife of Mark B. of Exeter Twp., Patty A. Baumer, wife of Steve J. of Lewes, DE, and Bernie J. Sauppee, husband of Lisa M. of Newark, DE. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and brothers: Gerald L. Sauppee of Sinking Spring and R. Joseph Sauppee of Florida.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 1018 N.8th Street, Reading, on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:30AM. The family will receive friends and relatives at church from 9-10:15AM. The entombment will follow the mass at Gethsemane Cemetery & Mausoleum.
