Irving Howard Jones died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94. Irving was born in 1928 to Robert T. Jones, MD and Wilhelmina Jones May 17, 1928 in Glendale, CA. He lived briefly in Santa Barbara, CA then his family moved to Plymouth, PA, where he lived until college and medical school years. He met his wife Marion Louise Kittle Jones, MD during med school years at Loma Linda University, in southern California. After graduation, the two moved to Reading, PA where they co-founded the Reading Institute of Rehabilitation (Reading Rehabilitation Hospital) with Russell Youngberg, MD. During his medical career in Reading, he spearheaded the early years of area Stop Smoking clinics and founded two residential care facilities, including The Green Hills Health Center. A lifelong vegetarian, he educated his patients and gave lectures locally on the importance of a healthy diet. He was an avid reader of biblical studies and history. In 1990 he attended and completed a Master of Divinity. During his life he preached in several churches in the Reading, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and at the Lawndale Adventist Church outside of Philadelphia. He had a tremendous singing voice and played the cornet. He was an avid volleyball player during warm weather months, Sunday afternoons on the Rehab grounds.
