Irene Wentzel

Irene S. Wentzel, 94, formerly of Reading, Exeter and Ephrata, passed away on March 6, 2018 at Manor care Sinking Spring where she had been a resident since December 29, 2015. Born in Sinking Spring, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Laura M. (Schell) Hafer. Irene was the wife of the late LeRoy W. Wentzel who died November 12, 1995.
Irene attended Alsace Township School and was a longtime member of Olivet Reformed Church, Reading. She was employed by Pomeroys/ The Bon-Ton for 35 years, retiring in 2002.
In addition to her sister, Joyce, wife of John Kiedeisch of Reading, Irene is survived by her six children: LeRoy C. Wentzel and his wife, Wilma of New Ringgold; Kay L. Osborn, wife of Russell of Ephrata; Jane C. Barrick, wife of William of Woodruff, SC; Betty Kuhns, widow of Robert, Reading; Raymond R. and wife Lorraine, of Denver, PA; and Gary L. and his wife, Donna, of Shillington. Irene is also survived by eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Preceding her in death were brothers Earl Hafer and Ellis Hafer, two grandsons and a step granddaughter.
Funeral Service will be held at Bean Funeral Home N. 16th & Rockland Streets Reading, 19604 on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Spies-Zion Cemetery, Alsace Township. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00am-11:00am at the funeral home.
