Howard L. Ash II, 77, of Alsace Twp., passed away August 3, 2009 at 6:57 PM in his residence. He was the husband of Mildred A. (Lucas) Ash for 57 years. Born in Reading on January 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold J. and Ida Grace (Dautich) Ash.
Mr. Ash was a 1950 graduate of Exeter and Mt. Penn High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in both the Navy and Marines. He was a member of Alsace Christian Fellowship Church, Alsace Manor.
Mr. Ash was a locomotive engineer for 50 years employed by Reading Railroad, ConRail and last working for Norfolk and Southern Railroad retiring August 1, 2003.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 daughters Susan P. (Ash) wife of Mark Chesser of Fleetwood, Diane (Ash) wife of Arthur Anderson on New York and a son Ricky Lee Ash of Alsace Twp., 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 2 brothers in law Joseph Lucas and his wife Kathy and Billy C. Lucas and his wife Cindy. He was predeceased by a son Howard L. Ash III on October 2000 and a grandson Jason Dierolf who passed away in January of 2000.
