Harry R. Baker Jr., 79, formerly of Sinking Spring, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the residence of his son.
Born in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Harry R. Baker Sr. and Lillie A. (Kinkade) Baker.
He was the widower of his first wife, Myrl A. (Sweitzer) Baker, who passed away on March 9, 2003, and Rev. Joanne D. (Joseph) Baker, who passed away on May 7, 2007.
He was a 1947 graduate of Mt. Penn High School, and in 1957 received his BS in Economics from Albright College. He also attended the University of Maryland Law School from 1957-59.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War.
He worked as the Chief of Quality Assurance for the Department of Defense at Indiantown Gap for 10 years, retiring in 1995. He previously worked as a CPA in PA, a controller for Post Precision Casting in Strausstown, and as a Revenue Agent in Baltimore, MD.
He was a member of Jordan-Martin Lodge #673 F & AM, Allentown, and was a past Master of the Reading Lodge #549 F & AM. In 1970, he was the past High Priest of Reading Royal Arch Chapter #152; in 1972, he was the Thrice Illustrious Master of Creigh Council #16, Royal and Select Masters, and the Commander of Reading Commandry #9, Knights Templar. In 1975-76, he was a member of the Penn Priory #6, and Knights of the York Cross of Honour since 1976.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bethlehem, PA.
Survivors include step sons: William W. Joseph II, with whom he resided, Roger S. Joseph Jr. of Macungie, and Rev. Kaleuati F. Kaleuati, North Platte, Neb.
There are also two step grandsons: Roger S. Joseph, III and Robert M. Joseph II; and two step granddaughters: Margaret Karaffa and Karen Kaleuati.
There are also four nieces and two nephews.
