Harold G. Sawyer Jr., 70, of Hampden Heights, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at home.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold G. Sawyer Sr. and Barbara (Messer) Sawyer.
He was the husband of Frances K. (Kopenhaver) Sawyer. The couple shared 23 wonderful years of marriage.
He was a 1957 graduate of Manheim Twp. High School; and a 1961 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, with a degree in Humanities. He also took advanced German Studies at the Goethe Institute in Germany.
He worked as a German, Latin, and English Teacher for Penn Manor High School in Millersville, PA for 28 years until 1988. He then worked as a German Teacher for Albright College. He was a member of the American Association of Teachers of German.
He was an accomplished organist, first serving as a substitute for local churches in Lancaster before being named the first Director of Music at Highland Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother: Barry L. Sawyer of Lancaster.
