Harold B. Leifer, 85, of Wyomissing, passed away November 22, 2010 at 5:45 PM in Reading Hospital & Medical Center where he was a patient since November 1st. He was the husband of Beatrice B. (Kramer) Leifer who passed away January 18, 2001. Born in Pottstown on July 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Gill) Leifer.
Mr. Leifer was a graduate of Pottstown High School. He was a sergeant in the US Army's 583rd Field Artillery Division during World War 2.
Mr. Leifer is survived by his son Michael J. Leifer with whom he resided, to whom he was more than just a father but his best friend, hero and mentor. He is also survived by a grandson Joshua Simon of Austin, TX. Mr. Leifer was predeceased by 2 daughters Robbie Leifer in 1956 and Diane (Leifer) Simon in 2005 and a brother Jack Isadore Leifer in 1997.
He was employed as an assistant to Ralph Levitz of Levitz Furniture Company for a number of years. After the death of his father in law, he became a partner and the CEO of Jimmie Kramer's The Peanut Bar Restaurant for 55 years retiring in 2006. After his retirement he remained as a partner with his son and a consultant in the business.
Mr. Leifer was a member of Kesher Zion Synagogue and a past President of the Sertoma Club of Reading. He was active in city affairs and did all he could to support the City of Reading.
