Hampton G. "Jake" Rapp, 101, formerly of Reading, passed away April 9, 2010 at 3:15 pm in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, a resident since March 23, 2010, Prior to residing at ManorCare, Mr. Rapp resided at Country Meadows of Wyomissing and later at Rittenhouse Senior Living in Muhlenberg Township. He was the husband of the late Elsie C. (Englebreight) Rapp who passed away January 17, 2006. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late William T. and Hattie M. (Strunk) Rapp. Mr. Rapp was owner and operator of Rapp Brothers Meat Market formerly of 10th & Robeson Streets in Reading for 45 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reading, a Life member of Reading Lodge 549 F&AM, Charter member of Northeast Reading Rotary Club, a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award, member of Reading Exchange Club and Rajah Temple, and a member of Reading School Board in the 1960's. Mr. Rapp is survived by his sons, Vernon G. husband of Dorothy R. Rapp of Muhlenberg Park and Michael T. husband of Jeanne M. Rapp of Phoenixville along with his grandchildren Lynn R. Scheipe, Jeffrey D. Rapp, Gregory A. Rapp, Gillian Armstrong and Meredith Rae as well as 6 great grandchildren.
