Gloria Schmidt

Gloria B. Schmidt, 81, of Lower Heidelberg Twp., passed away April 27, 2010 at 7:30 AM in Phoebe Berks Health Center. She was the wife of J. Oliver Schmidt who passed away April 7, 2003. Born in Palmyra on July 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John K. and Myra V. (Hetrick) Bachman.

Mrs. Schmidt was a 1946 graduate of Palmyra High School and a 1949 graduate of Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room of The Pennsylvania Hospital and the Geisinger Medical Center. She was also a Flight Nurse accompanying patients on flights on the East Coast.

Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the former Wernersville Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter Carol S. (Schmidt) wife of Dr. John V. Reitz of Shillington, 2 sons Dennis A. husband of Susan S. (Smith) Schmidt of Ridgefield, CT and Kenneth R. husband of Maureen Schmidt of Mt. Laurel, NJ, 8 grandchildren Christopher, Eric and Lauren Reitz, John and Beth Ann Schmidt, Jake Schmidt, Samantha Miller and Sydney Schmidt, a great granddaughter Sophia Schmidt and a sister in law Lois Schmidt of Wyomissing. She was predeceased by a son J. Oliver Schmidt, III who passed away April 3, 1982.
