Glenn R. Dowd, 95, formerly of Laureldale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 25, 2022 at Keystone Villa in Fleetwood, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Ruch) Dowd who passed away September 2, 2018; they were married for 68 years. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Dowd was the son of the late Donald and Kathryn A. (Patten) Dowd.
With a quiet reverence, Mr. Dowd spent his years serving God and his country. He was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church in Laureldale. In addition, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army Air Corp during both World War II and the Korean War. As a veteran, he spent much time volunteering at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. He instilled in his family the honor it is to be an American.
Mr. Dowd was employed as an electronic technician at RCA Service Company in Reading for over 40 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 173 in Tamaqua for 50 years. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
Most of all, Mr. Dowd was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children David R. Dowd, husband of Cheryl A. Dowd of Riverview Park; Eileen E. Kistler, wife of Kenneth H. Kistler of Bern Township; Carolyn K. Guenst, wife of David Guenst of Souderton and his 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Bean Funeral Home, 1605 Rockland Street, Hampden Heights, Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11:00 am. Interment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Air Force Honor Guard will follow at Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mid Atlantic Air Museum, 1054 Arnold Road, Reading, PA 19605 in memory of Mr. Glenn R. Dowd.
