George R. Knorr, 83, of Oley, passed away on October 21, 2016 at his home.
From a young age, George was a sports enthusiast, winning many awards in his school days at Jacksonwald. After serving with the US Army in occupied Germany from 1954-1956,
George became an avid Roller-skater. He participated in many local and national competitions, eventually ranking number 7 in the United States!
George worked at Western Electric as a machinist while also tending to his farm in the Oley Valley, where he raised beef cattle. Later he built and operated the Fantasy Skating Rink in Muhlenberg Twp., sharing his love of skating for 23 years. Eventually George would enjoy retirement in East Tennessee spending time with his family eating ice cream and watching football.
George was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was preceded in death by his parents: George L. and Alice Knorr, as well as two brothers: Jack and Martin Knorr.
He is survived by his wife: Maribel Knorr; Son: Hayes A. Knorr, husband of Kaitlin N. of Dandridge, TN; Granddaughter: Sophia V. Knorr. He is also survived by brothers: Gerry Knorr and Larry Knorr, husband of Emily; Sister: Shirley Haas, wife of Earl; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
A private service will be held for immediate family at Schwartzwald Cemetery in Exeter Twp.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a veterans association of your choice in George's honor.
