George Raymond Fix Jr., age 91, of Manitowoc, WI and formerly of Reading, entered into heaven Saturday evening, November 21, 2015 at his home with his daughter at his side.
George was born January 6, 1924 in Reading, Pennsylvania, son of the late George R. Fix, Sr. and Dorothy M. (Richards). He married Katherine E. Fick, May 8, 1948.
George attended Reading High School, Reading Pa. He was employed at Rockwell International, West Reading, PA for 37 years, retiring in 1982. George served his country by enlisting with the United States Army in 1941 and serving overseas during World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 44, Reading, PA and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Ave., Laureldale, PA.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter: George R. Fix III, Laureldale, PA; Darryl D. (Jill) Fix, Kempton, PA; and Cynthia J.( Terry) Rhodes, Manitowoc, WI; twelve grandchildren, Brooke Fix, Sondra (Larry) Valeriano, Brandon Smith, Justin Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Jennifer (Abraham) Colchado, Wendy Roque, Nicole (Matthew) Boyle, Ashley (Julio) Delgado, Alexis Rhodes, Nolan Fix, Colby Fix: nine great-grandchildren; Brayden and Brittney Roque, Kai and Rhian Colchado, Courtlynn and Carly Boyle, Bailey Rhodes, Olivia Delgado and Gianni Valeriano; along with other relatives and friends surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Dorothy Fix Sr.; one sister: Gladys M. Brey; and one brother: Richard H. Fix. He will be missed by his beloved dog and companion, Badger and Beasley, his feline friend.
George was a very caring, gentle and giving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother- in- law and friend. Most importantly he was a child of God. In his younger years he enjoyed roller skating, hunting and playing the Hawaiian steel guitar. In his later years he loved watching old westerns, putting puzzles together, listening to music, playing poker, playing his harmonica and reading the comics on Sunday afternoons. He always enjoyed visits from friends and family. He had a crazy sense of humor, would break out in song and would cheer everyone up who walked into his presence.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in the Bean Funeral Home, 1605 Rockland Street, Reading, Rev. Thomas Irwin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00-11:00. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Manitowoc, WI.
We would also like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the many caregivers throughout the years that assisted George with care and compassion which includes visiting nurses from Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers, nurses and CNA's at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc and Home Care Health Services and Hospice, Manitowoc, WI.
