Gene R. Umbenhouer, 86, of Spring Twp., passed away July 16, 2015 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Madlyn E. (Balthaser) Umbenhouer, they were married Nov. 15, 1952, together they celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Alva L. (Rickenbach) Umbenhouer.
Gene served in the US Army and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church. He was a very talented trumpet player, playing in numerous bands throughout his more than 70 year musical career. He also taught private brass musical lessons and repaired musical instruments. He served for 36 years as Librarian of the Ringgold Band and was awarded the Gene R. Umbenhouer Ringgold Band Commemorate Library.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Madlyn, are children Gary L. Umbenhouer, husband of Colleen, Douglasville; Gail A. (Umbenhouer) Undheim, wife of Rick Adams, Sinking Spring; granddaughter Heather L. Faller; great-grandchildren Aidan, Logan and Kayla Faller. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kim L. Umbenhouer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Ringgold Band: 3529 Fremont Street # A, Reading, PA 19605.
Memorial service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring, Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:00am, Rev. William B. Fryer, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 9:00-10:00am.
