Frederick Stubbs

April 20, 1940 — April 7, 2011

Frederick R. Stubbs, 70, of Reading, passed away Thursday at 12 noon in the Reading Hospital where he had been a patient since Monday.


Known as "Suggie", he was the husband of Rebecca A. (McFarland) Stubbs.


Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Earl F. and Ruth E. (Hurdle) Stubbs.


Fred was founder and executive director of Berks Advocates Against Violence where he established the first batterer's program in Berks County.


He presently served on the Boards of the Council on Chemical Abuse, mental Health / Mental Retardation, Center for Intuitive Services, and the Goggle Works.


He was President of the first graduating class at Reading Area Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree in Psychology and was a Graduate of Alvernia College with a BA in Psychology.


He was a Navy Veteran.


In addition to his wife he is survived by three children; Dionne M. Stubbs - Reading, Dwayne F. Stubbs - Reading and Tara A. Dayd-Williams - Jacksonville, FL


Three grandchildren: Eric S Jefferson and Marriah Wright at home and Joshua T. Quick - Phoenix, AZ.


Three Brothers: Earl J. - husband of Ann (Chavis) Stubbs - Greensboro, NC; Nelson R. husband of Maryann (Stevenson) Stubbs - Reading and Vaughn D. Stubbs - Philadelphia.


Two Sisters: Emma B. (Stubbs) - wife of Raymond L. White - Reading and Cynthia D. (Stubbs) wife of Hugh Hill - Kent, CT


He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: William Stubbs, Charles L. Stubbs, Marilyn E. Gilmore, and Pamela R. Ransome.
