Frederick J. Bortz, 92, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Kutztown Manor, where he had been a resident since September.
Born in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Ezekiah E. Bortz and Mary E. (Behm) Bortz, and the widow of Anna M. (Beane) Bortz, who passed away on October 2, 1989.
He served with the United States Army during World War II, where he participated in the Invasion of Normandy, Battle of the Rhineland, and Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of 5 bronze stars for his heroic efforts.
He worked as a machinist for the Dana Corporation for 21 years, retiring in 1986, and was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post #378 in Reading. He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Reiffton.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and pre deceased by eight brothers and sisters.
