Frank Chiacchio

Frank J. Chiacchio, 73, of Shillington, lost his long courageous battle with cancer on December 29, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Naples, Italy, he was the son of the late Joseph Chiacchio and Josephine (Landolfi) Chiacchio. Frank was the beloved husband of Lina/Carmela (Catalano) Chiacchio; together they celebrated their 50th anniversary of a loving marriage in February, 2021. He studied at The University of Naples where he met and fell in love with, Lina, his future wife. He continued his studies in the US where he received his bachelor’s degree in Physics & Mathematics from Drexel University with honors. Frank began as an Engineer for EnerSys (Exide) in 1976 and retired in 2011 as the Director of Advanced Battery Development. He had a great love for gardening, playing the piano, and listening to opera and classical music. Frank was a man of his word and always ready to help others. He had a passion to learn and taught himself how to do many new things. He also loved going to the beach. Most of all, Frank was a family man and cherished every moment he spent with his wife and children, especially his special needs son, Mark.

In addition to his wife, Lina, Frank is survived by his sons, Joseph M. Chiacchio and Mark F. Chiacchio. Also surviving are his sisters, Grace Montemurro, widow of Angelo of New Jersey and Antonetta Varallo, wife of Carmine of Philadelphia, and nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his brother, Domenico.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 11:00 am in St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive, Reading, PA 19609.  Rev. Thomas Bortz will celebrate.  The family will receive friends and relatives Wednesday, January 12th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in St. Ignatius Loyola RCC.  Entombment will be held privately.  Bean Funeral Homes, Shillington, is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
