Everett A. Berkel, 77, of West Lawn, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 6:40 am in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Emily (Horas) Berkel, they celebrated their 54th anniversary in April. Born in Equality, Illinois, he was the son of the late George and Irene (Farthing) Berkel. He and his wife were one of the original parishioners of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, which was founded in 1965. He had several certifications in industrial applications and equipment including certification from Industrial Training Institute. He was a maintenance supervisor at Brentwood Industries for many years until his retirement in 1999. Mr. Berkel loved going out to eat, watching old westerns, traveling, making people laugh with his silly sense of humor, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Emily, he is survived by his children Everett Berkel, companion of Alison Seyler of Mount Penn; David Berkel, husband of Rebecca Berkel of Pricetown; Brian Berkel of West Lawn; Dianne Wentzel, widow of Ronald Wentzel, Jr. of Sinking Spring; Todd Berkel, husband of Tambria Berkel of West Lawn and Karen Baker, wife of James Baker of Sinking Spring. He is also survived by his grandchildren Wesley, husband of Joelle Berkel, and Lauren Berkel; Vanessa, Amanda, and Daniel Baker; Alexander, and Alison Berkel; Joshua Wentzel; and his great grandchildren Willow and Jameson Berkel. Mr. Berkel is also survived by his siblings George Berkel, husband of Emma Berkel of Muhlenberg Township, Sister Mary Regina Berkel, O.P. of Springfield, Illinois, step brother Lowell Berkel, husband of Bonnie Berkel, of El Paso, TX, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Berkel and Stanley Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church 2810 St. Alban's Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11:00 am. Reverend Thomas P. Bortz, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church Monday 9:30-10:45 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund at the above address in memory of Mr. Everett A. Berkel.
