Ethel Y. Kreider

April 16, 1926 — January 28, 2024

Sinking Spring

Ethel Y. Kreider (Reedy), 97, of Sinking Spring, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Columbia Cottage, Wyomissing. She was the loving wife to Lester R. Kreider, whom she shared 62 years of marriage with, before his passing on April 22, 2011. Born in Sinking Spring, Ethel was the daughter of the late Walter C. Reedy and Laura A. (Yost). She was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1943.

Ethel was a woman of many talents. She provided hairdressing services for many of her friends and relatives, had an incredible garden, and was well known for her superb shoo-fly pies. Ethel was also a wonderful story teller, who always brought joy and laughter to those around her. She was very generous in many ways, and an active member of the Lower Heidelberg Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

Ethel lived most of her life in the same farmhouse where she was born. At the farm it was a rare day to approach her house without seeing her silhouette outlined at the sink busily cooking or cleaning. From helping her parents with the farm chores as a young girl, to lending a hand whenever needed when her own family was operating the farm she never shied away from hard work  Ethel was also a lifetime fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State football.

Ethel is survived by her son, Alan S. Kreider, husband of Valerie, of Sinking Spring, daughter in law, Joy W. Kreider, grandchildren, Ty Kline, husband of Rayny, Clint Kreider, husband of Tiffany, Zach Kreider, Breanne Weinhold, wife of Cole, Bethany Kreider, wife of Erik, Hannah Fitterling, wife of Ryan, and 5 great grandchildren.

In addition to her late husband Lester, Ethel is predeceased by her sons, Stephen R. Kreider, and Michael L. Kreider. She is also predeceased by brother, Walter Y. Reedy, and sister, Edith Y. Holtzman.

The family would like to thank the staff at Columbia Cottage for their excellent care over the last few years.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions can be made in Ethels name to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or the charitable organization of your choice.
