Erna Silas

Erna E. Silas, 90, of Cumru Township, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 7:55 pm in her home. She was the wife of the late William J. Silas who passed away April 30, 1994. Born in Ostrite, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Josefa (Kaplan) Schlums. Mrs. Silas was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Reading and an active member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens group. In the past, she was employed as a sewing machine operator at Rachman's and Astor Swimwear. She was an avid bingo player. Mrs. Silas was preceded in death by her son Wayne J. Silas, husband of Debra L. Silas of Exeter Township, who passed away March 7, 2011. Mrs. Silas is survived by her daughter Wendy J. Rakowiecki of Wernersville and her two grandsons Shane A. and Kirk A.E. Silas.
Memorial Service will be held in Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 1559 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19602, Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Carol B. Kehler will officiate. Interment will be held privately by the family in Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund at the above address in memory of Mrs. Erna E. Silas.
