Emma Swoyer

June 5, 1916 — June 16, 2009

On June 16, 2009, after ten and a half years apart, Emma (Nanny) Swoyer, 93, Wyomissing, was reunited with her much beloved husband, Gordon (Pete) Swoyer who passed away September 7, 1998. Born in Reading on June 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edna (Wertz) Lengel and the late Roscoe Lengel. She is survived by a son Gordon Jr. and daughter in law Delores of San Antonio, TX; a daughter Beverly (Swoyer) Greenwalt, of Wyomissing; a daughter Nancy (Swoyer) Schell and son in law Butch (who she loved as a son), both of Laureldale. Emma is also survived by 7 granddaughters and one grandson, who have given her 15 great grandchildren. She was to expect her first great great grandchild this year.

Emma was last employed by Bechtel, Lutz and Yost, leaving that job to take care of her two granddaughters, Jenny and Krissy, time that she held dearly. Emma had been recognized by the state of PA, in 2000, for 50 years of consecutive voting. She also volunteered as Judge of Elections for the County of Berks.

Everyone who knew Emma loved her. She enjoyed weekly trips to Silver Scissors, and in her younger years, she loved traveling to the shore with family and friends, who she also considered family. Anyone welcomed into her home would be treated to a great meal, and even better hospitality.

Emma's greatest joy in life was her family. Beyond her children, Emma loved her grandchildren, and absolutely adored her great grandchildren. She looked forward to visits from her granddaughters, and loved spending time with her great grandchildren.

Emma will be dearly missed by all family and friends.
